A Program of Futures Fulfilled

YOUR VOICE — Lead Where It Matters

You’ve done the work at home. You know your child. You have a perspective that no administrator, school board member, or policy maker carries.

This is the page for parents who are ready to use that perspective.

Start With What You Already Own

Before we talk about speaking at meetings or running for a board seat — start here.

You already hold more authority than you may realize. You control what your child is exposed to. You control the values they absorb at home. You control the conversations that shape how they see the world. You control their access to media, to ideas, to people, and to experiences that form who they’re becoming.

That authority doesn’t require a school board vote. It doesn’t require anyone’s permission. It is already yours. Build from there.

Parents don’t control schools. Parents control access.

Choice is leverage. Choice is leadership.

Three Levels of Leadership

Choose your level. Move when you’re ready — but move.

Level 1 — Own It

For parents who are just finding their footing as advocates.

This is where it starts — not at a school board meeting, but at your front door. Owning it means recognizing the authority you already have. You control what comes in. You control what’s discussed. You control the home your child grows up in. That’s not a small thing. That’s the foundation everything else is built on.

  • Read the Context / What This Means page — especially The Access Principle

  • Start the Family Council at home this week

  • Know your rights as a parent in your school district

  • Share They Are MY Kids!™ with three parents you trust

Level 2 — Lead It

For parents who are ready to show up and be heard.

Attend. Ask questions. Speak. Contact your representatives. This is the level where parents go from watching to doing — and where the conversation in your community starts to change.

  • Attend a school board meeting and speak during public comment

  • Request and review your child’s curriculum materials

  • Write to your school board member or state legislator

  • Complete the Public Speaking Basics guide from What Helps

Level 3 — Build It

For parents who are ready to change the structure.

Run for your school board. Start a parent network. Build a co-op. Organize at the community level. This is where individual leadership becomes institutional influence.

  • Run for a local school board seat

  • Start a parent network in your school district

  • Launch or join a homeschool cooperative

  • Partner with Futures Fulfilled to bring programs to your community

At a School Board Meeting

“I am here because I am my child’s primary advocate. I have reviewed the curriculum and I have questions. I am asking them respectfully and I expect a respectful answer.”

When You Feel Like You Have No Power

“I may not control what the school district decides. But I control what comes into my home. I control what my child is exposed to. I control the values they grow up with. That’s not nothing. That’s everything.”

When Asked About Your School Choice

“We made the choice that fits our family. That’s what parents do. I’m happy to share what we’ve found helpful.”

When Talking to Another Parent

“Your involvement matters more than any program or policy. The research is clear: you are the most important factor in your child’s outcome. Not the school. Not the system. You.”

SHARE YOUR STORY

The movement grows through real accounts from real parents. If They Are MY Kids!™ has changed how you show up for your children, share it. Your story gives another parent permission to take their first step. → Share My Story
